As the European Commission develops its VAT in the Digital Age legislative agenda, EuroCommerce and Ecommerce Europe invite interested parties to a roundtable on the Single EU VAT Registration concept. Join us in person or virtually on 1 June to be part of the discussion with policymakers and businesses.

We will cover:

  • The broader context of the EU’s VAT in the Digital Age initiative including lessons learned from the 2021 Ecommerce Package
  • The multifaceted benefits of a Single EU VAT Registration
  • Which use cases single EU VAT Registration needs to address to be effective for EU businesses
  • The challenges to achieving the reform and how they can be addressed

  • Opening remarks from Chair
  • Keynote address by Ludwig De Winter
    Mr De Winter, Deputy Head of VAT Unit, European Commission, will provide an update on the European Commission's progress with its VAT in the Digital Age initiative, focusing in on the place of Single EU VAT registration within the wider program, which includes digital reporting and VAT rules for the platform economy.
  • Panel discussion, including audience Q&A
    The panel will discuss the pain points in the current VAT system and how they see a single EU VAT registration will help. Audience members will also have an opportunity to put their own questions to the panel.
  • Networking reception with drinks and canapés
    Please join us after the event for refreshments and a chance to continue the discussion with other participants.

Harald Past

— Event Chair & Head of Trade & Taxation, EuroCommerce
Harald heads the international trade and taxation team at EuroCommerce, representing the European retail and wholesale sector. He focuses in particular on trade facilitation and simplification of tax procedures for businesses, including VAT.
Keynote Speaker

Ludwig De Winter

— Deputy Head of VAT Unit, European Commission Directorate-General for Taxation and Customs Union (TAXUD)
Mr De Winter is a leader in the European Commission's VAT Unit. He was one of the architects of the VAT e-Commerce package and is presently one of the driving forces behind the EC's VAT in the Digital Age initiative.

Stefano Mauro

— Panel Chair & e-Logistics and Taxation Working Committee Lead, Ecommerce Europe
Through the e-Logistics Working Committee, Stefano deals with many topics related to the cross-border delivery of goods, such as VAT/customs legislation, direct taxation, sustainable mobility, standardisation and postal market issues.

Agnès Walckiers

—  Policy officer - VAT legislation, European Commission Directorate-General for Taxation and Customs Union (TAXUD)
As policy officer in the EC's VAT Unit, Ms Walckiers is project leader for the Single VAT Registration part of the VAT in Digital age initiative. This follows her work implementing the eCommerce VAT Package and closely monitoring its application.

Tobias Jaroschek is the managing director of Mercatura Warenhandel GmbH in Moers. Via e-commerce platforms, Mercatura sells goods relating to home, household and decoration across the European market.

— Chief Operating Officer, Visunext Group
Axel Niclas is COO of Visunext, a leading European seller of presentation & home cinema technology. Following professional positions in the publishing & agency industry, he has been driving improvement of operational business processes since 2011.

Johan Van der Paal

— Partner, Deloitte Belgium & Member of the EU VAT Expert Group
Johan Van der Paal is a partner with Deloitte Belgium, based in Brussels. He has more than 25 years of experience advising on indirect taxes, particularly financial services and e-commerce. He represents Deloitte in the EC's VAT Expert Group.
